The total number of internet subscribers has been steadily increasing over the years. However, there is a stark change in the slope of the trend line since 2016-17, marking the entry of Jio. With extremely affordable rates, it became very accessible for people to have an internet connection, and hence, the number of subscribers has been increasing at an increasing rate since 2016.
The share of narrowband subscribers among total internet subscribers has been declining since 2015, whereas, that of broadband subscribers has been on an upward trajectory. This can be attributed to the increased demand for high-speed internet for various uses like streaming and downloading large contents, etc.
